I'm asked all the time about dating, here are some
questions and my answers.
WHEN DO I INTRODUCE A
BOYFRIEND TO MY CHILDREN
This depends on the age of your children and the length of
your relationship with the other person. Here is a rule of
thumb that some people have found works for them.
1 Only introduce the children once you have a committed
relationship, someone who you are serious about and they
you... and who you think will be a good step parent to your
children.
2 Don't introduce a boyfriend into your children's lives
until at least 6 months of regular dating and you feel he
or she is a safe person to have around.
3 Make the first introduction in a public place, like go to
lunch with the kids and meet the other person there. This
introduces them gradually.
4 Make sure you explain to your children that this person
is only a friend, don't suddenly go on about how he oe she
makes you feel happy.
5 Don't have adult conversations with your children about
your own personal relationship with this new woman or man.
6 Never ask your children how they feel about this new
person. If he or she is going to be in your life, then he
or she will be in theirs, don't worry about a child's
feedback.... unless it is of a serious nature.
7 Have several meetings in public and begin to arrange a
meeting where he/she can join you and the children in
activities, like going to the beach.
